Rokersset.
I came across the smoker’s kit above at ‘Het Goed’ in Vlaardingen, the Netherlands. It was complete in its original box and consisted of an ashtray, a dish for toothpicks or something and a lighter. The name ‘Rembrandt’was printed at the back.In order to find out where this kit originated, I showed the photographs to Kevin Graham from the forum www.potteryandglass.forumandco.com. He is an expert in the field of decoration names of ‘West German Pottery’(WGP). Then I indicated that I thought of Scheurich or Jasba, because I own a small Scheurich vase very similar to it. Besides Jasba manufactured quite a lot of these splash decorative features.
This is his reply:
Kevin Graham: "Hi Angelo,
You will need to remember all CDS or books on WGP & EGP are work in progress, no one person has all the answers, I think we only know 3-5% of anything as of now. If we are lucky in the next 10 years we may
get to 50% of knowing. Mark Hill told me the other day which blew my mind, for the last 50 years, all the antiques experts in the UK, thought they knew that a certain decor was Royal Doulton. But a very early 1830s catalogue with hand painted pictures came up proving these pieces were by a different company and not Royal Doulton at all. So there is hope for the future."
Can I see the base of these pieces? Rembrandt could easily be a new decor name, well done.
Mijn antwoord hierop was:
My answer to this was:
"Hi Kevin, there is nothing at the base of the items".
Kevin Graham: "I see, so why did you think Jasba & Scheurich?"
"Hi Kevin,
Because I have a small Scheurich vase that looks almost the same, the character of the painting etc, only the base colour is more pink than grey."

A colleague-collector, Bob Velleman, recently provided some more information about the smoker’s kit. Namely, he is in the possession of another ashtray that belongs to the kit. At the bottom of this ashtray the text ‘made in Holland’ can be read, followed by a figure. Quote: “It could read 116 or 911 or possibly the letters HG”.
So the kit is not of German origin, but it has originally been manufactured in the Netherlands.
Underneath two photographs he sent me.
